Northport Church of God was the Tuscaloosa News Feature Church on February 6, 1970.
"The Northport Church of God was organized in September 1950, with a charter membership of 27 by the Rev. L. E. Talley, who is presently pastor of the Tuscaloosa Church of God.
The church had a very humble beginning, worshiping in a tent along the old Columbus Highway, and has grown now to a membership of 147 with a property value in excess of $125.000.
During the past 3 1/2 years, the church has experienced rapid growth under the leadership of their present pastor, Rev. John C. Franklin, formerly of Birmingham, Alabama.
Pastors who have served the Northport Church of God since its organization are: Rev. L.E. Talley, Rev. C.C. Dunnavant, Rev. C.Y. Bussey, and the Rev. B.A. Brown."
