Description

First Christian Church was the Tuscaloosa News Feature Church on August 29, 1969.

"The First Christian Church of Tuscaloosa, which has occupied its present building at the corner of University Boulevard and Queen City Avenue since 1927, will relocate to the new chapel at 627 10th Street by Sunday, September 7, 1969.

This church dates its beginnings back to 1907, when thirty-two people organized and met in the City Hall for church school and Holy Communion. The first church building was located in the East End of the city. The move to 10th Street will make the only time the congregation has relocated. The actual moving day is scheduled for Monday, September 1 (Labor Day), when the members will be on hand to help move articles to the new location and to enjoy a pot-luck supper.

The church has always been closely associated with the University of Alabama and eager to minister to both the staff and students. By being located adjacent to the campus, the church will have a greater opportunity to expand its campus ministry. The Disciples House (campus center) is sponsored by the First Christian Church and the Christian Churches of the Alabama Area. Also many of the church's members are in business, various professors, and are employed by the many industries in our area. The church expects to enlarge its ministry to the total community and to unite people of varied interests, ages, and professions in the Christian mission."
