Description

First Baptist Church Tuscaloosa was the Tuscaloosa News Feature Church on November 13, 1970. Minister at this time was Dr. C.C. Randall.

"First Baptist Church was organized as Ebenezer Church on January 24, 1818. Ebenezer Church was one of the ten churches which organized the Cahawba Association in October 1818.
In 1839 Ebenezer withdrew from the Cahawba Association and joined the Tuscaloosa Association, which had been organized in 1834.
During its 150 year history the church has occupied four buildings on three different sites. The first building stood on the corner of Fourth Street and Twenty Seventh Avenue. In 1884, the church built on the present site and erected the educational building in 1924.
In 1951 an effort was begun to construct a new auditorium. After years of planning and work, the auditorium became a reality in December, 1958.
Through the years the membership has been concerned with the outreach of the church. The church has played a leading role in the establishment of seven churches, Hopewell (1830), West End (1910), Forest Lake (1936), and Circlewood (1948)."
