Description
The bell atop the First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa’s tower is unlike any bell in the state of Alabama.
This bell is one of less than 140 bells still in existence crafted by Paul Revere. It is a part of history straight out of Boston, Mass., where Revere and his family had cast over 900 bells of varying size.
The bell is 455 lbs. and was given to the then named Methodist Episcopal Church Tuscaloosa in 1828 by Samuel St. John Jr. and Joshua E. Leavens of Mobile (before the church even had a building to put it in).
