Description

Karl Elebash Jr. was a local journalist and Republican activist. A Tuscaloosa native, Elebash graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and began his career in the newspaper business in the mailroom of The Tuscaloosa News when he was 17. He continued to work there while enrolled at the University of Alabama where he earned his bachelor of science degree in commerce in 1941.

After graduation, he worked for The Tuscaloosa News for a year before joining the U.S. Air Force. During World War II he served as an intelligence officer for a fighter squadron based in England.

After the war, Elebash worked as a journalist for The Tuscaloosa News, the Mobile Press Register, the Wall Street Journal and South magazine.

in 1957, Elebash and his wife, Camille Maxwell Elebash, founded a Tuscaloosa newspaper called The Graphic. Elebash was publisher and editor of the newspaper for 22 years until it was sold to The Tuscaloosa News and eventually ceased publication.

Elebash was active in the Republican Party and was a delegate to the 1984 Republican Convention from Tuscaloosa County. He attended the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan in 1985 after Reagan's re-election.

Karl Elebash died in 2003, survived by his wife, a daughter and three sons.
