Description

The Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tuscaloosa was dedicated on July 4, 1932.

The first patient was admitted a mere 11 days later on July 15. Upon its opening, the medical center housed 272 beds for veterans in need of hospitalization for general medical and surgical needs. It was converted to a neuro-psychiatric facility in 1940.
