Description

Brigadier General Henry Graham orders Alabama Governor George C. Wallace to step away from the door of Foster Auditorium when Wallace attempted to block two black students, Vivian Malone and James Hood, from registering for classes at the University of Alabama in 1963. This action is known as his "Stand in the Schoolhouse Door. Ultimately, Wallace stepped aside and Brigadier General Henry Graham escorted Vivian Malone and James Hood into Foster Auditorium to register for classes. Alabama became the last state in the union to desegregate its system of public education.
