Seaman Paul Melvin Jacobs died when his ship the USS Ingraham went down off the coast of Nova Scotia while Seaman Jacobs was serving his first tour of duty with the navy. Seaman Jacobs was reported missing on August 27, 1942, and was declared dead on August 23, 1943.
