Victor Hugo Friedman followed in his father's footsteps to become a successful businessman and civic leader in Tuscaloosa.
He was the son of Bernard (also spelled Bernhard) Friedman who came to the United States and eventually Tuscaloosa, from Hungary in 1852. Bernard Friedman built a successful retail and cotton business.
Hugo Friedman was an undergraduate trainer for the Alabama football team. He remained intimately involved in University of Alabama athletics, accompanying the Crimson Tide on the train to Pasadena and back for the 1926 Rose Bowl game and serving on the search committee that brought Bear Bryant to the Capstone. He was active in many local organizations as described in his obituary, published in The Tuscaloosa News on November 21, 1965.
