Description

Emmanuel Baptist Church was the Tuscaloosa News Feature Church on March 8, 1970. W.

"The Emmanuel Baptist Church is a new church in the City of Tuscaloosa. The church was formally constituted on November 23, 1969.
Some five years ago the membership of Twenty-Fifth Avenue Baptist Church purchased 2.6 acres of property in the Brooksdale Subdivision for a church site. It was the mind of the membership of Twenty-Fifth Avenue Baptist Church that for a continued ministry the day would come when the church would need to re-locate. With this in mind the new property was purchased for a future church site.

The Reverend Jack Hayes was the Pastor of Twenty-Fifth Avenue Baptist at the time the church had this vision for her future ministry and the new property was selected, purchased and paid for under his very able leadership. The property located on Twenty-Fifth Avenue was at that time on the market for sale. This property was up for sale for a period of five years before it was sold. During this period of time the Reverend Jack Hayes felt that God was leading him to accept a church in Georgia and moved to Georgia. The church then began to pray and seek God's leadership in calling a new pastor.
In August of 1969 the church called Reverend W. Everette Martin, who was then pastor of the West End Baptist Church of Mobile, Alabama to come as pastor. Shortly after Revered Martin came as pastor a buyer was found for the property located on Twenty-Fifth Avenue. The property was sold to the 88 U Drive It Corporation on December 1, 1969.

Immediately plans were drawn up and bids were taken for the building the first unit of construction on the present site at 610 Brooksdale Drive. The contract was given to Lloyd Wood Construction Company and construction was begun in December of 1969.

The first unit of construction was completed and the first service was held on Easter Sunday Morning March 29, 1970. Since that time the church has experienced steady growth in all areas.

The church will be in her first revival effort May 10-15. We ask you to attend and pray for the continued ministry of this new church in our city."
