The President presents the "E" Award to J. Reese Phifer, president of Phifer Wire Products Inc. The award is given for exceptional efforts in generating U.S. exports.
Phifer graduated from the University of Alabama with degrees in commerce and law. In time, Phifer turned his attention to his small business venture, Phifer Aluminum Screen Company established in 1952. His efforts turned it into a global giant renamed Phifer Wire Products in 1956.
Later in life, Phifer’s generous contributions to UA earned him a building dedication. Reese Phifer Hall, once the student union building, is now the home of the College of Communication and Information Sciences.
