Description

William Daniel “Dan” Morrison served on the Northport City Council from 1964 to 1971 when he was elected to complete the term of Northport Mayor George Rose. He served as mayor for 18 months in 1971-1972. He was reelected a councilman in 1988 and served until 2000. Morrison played a part in the creation of the Northport Fire and Rescue Department and also the water treatment and wastewater plants. He was also instrumental in the establishment of Northport’s first citywide pay plan witch established rates based on job titles.

Morrison attended Tuscaloosa County High School and served in the Navy during World War II. He worked for BF Goodrich for 40 years. He married Mildred Chism Morrison and had a son, Thomas Morrison. He was a Boy Scout Master, a Little League coach and a member of Northport First Methodist Church. He was named Northport’s Citizen of the Year in 2011.

Morrison died in 2015 and is buried in Bone Camp Cemetery in Northport.
