Morris Loveman Friedman was a well-known Tuscaloosa businessman and civic worker, often referred to as "Mr. Theater" for his connection to community theater starting in the 1920s. Friedman held countless roles in local productions from Shakespearean drama to musical comedy.
Friedman was a member of a longtime Tuscaloosa family associated with the historic Battle-Friedman House on Greensboro Avenue and the historic house now called the Jemison Mansion, also on Greensboro Avenue, that was donated by the Friedman family to house the Tuscaloosa Public Library.
Friedman was co-founder of the first Boy Scout troop in Tuscaloosa and was one of the founders of Black, Friedman and Winston, an exclusive men's clothing store in Tuscaloosa.
