The University of Alabama Band, called the Million Dollar Band since 1922, has entertained crowds at Alabama Football games for 100 years.
The Band formed in 1913 under the leadership of Dr. Gustav Wittig. In 1917, the band became a military band and was student led until 1927.
In 1936, Col. Carlton K. Butler became the director of the band and led the band to national prominence. Butler led the band for 33 years. Butler was followed by director Earl Dunn (1969-1970), Dr. James Ferguson (1971-1983), Ms. Kathryn B. Scott (1984-2002) and Dr. Kenneth Ozzello (2003-present).
