Lillian was born in Connecticut and moved with her family to Olmsted Station, Alabama near Cottondale. Her father was the post master in Olmsted Station. She was a graduate of the Alabama Central Female College and a talented artist.
She married Frederick William Monnish on February 26, 1885 and they later moved to Tuscaloosa. She was the mother of 3 daughters -
Johanne Harriet (Honor),1885-1981
Wilhelmina, 1897-1994
Dorothy Lillian, 1902-1997
and 1 son - Sage Alexander, 1888-1908
