Pvt. Luther M. Gardner was killed on July 18, 1918, while serving with the 58th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Division in France. According to the probate file found here: Ancestry.com. Alabama, Wills and Probate Records, 1753-1999, Pvt. Gardner was the brother of Mrs. Gertrude Cummings, Mrs. Effie Gwin, and Mrs. Maude G. Howell.
