GySgt. John M. Avery was killed on October 30, 1968, while serving as a Platoon Sergeant with Company B, 1st Amphibious Tractor Battalion, 3rd Marine Divison. Sgt. Avery was the husband of Mrs. Christine Meadows Avery and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vassor Avery.
