Description
Chief Gunner's Mate James O. Loftis was killed October 7, 1943 while serving on the USS Concord in the Pacific following a gasoline explosion. Mate Loftis along with 21 of his shipmates was buried at sea. Mate Loftis was the husband of Mrs. Julia Watkins Loftis. A second obituary can be found in the Birmingham News on December 15, 1943.
