Pfc. John E. Smith died on June 11, 1943, in Japan where he was a prisoner-of-war. Pfc. Smith prior to being taken captive served with the 3rd Bomb Group Headquarters Division. Pfc. Smith was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Smith of Akron.
