St. Francis Chapel was the Tuscaloosa News Feature Church on February 26, 1971.

"St. Francis Chapel (Campus Chapel for University of Alabama faculty and Catholic students, located at 811 5th Ave.) was established in 1929. The membership is composed of students and faculty members from all 50 states. The Eucharist is celebrated each day at 12:15 P.M. and 4:50 P.M. and on Sundays at 8:30 A.M., 10:00 A.M., and 11:30. Confessions are heard before all the Masses and on Saturday evenings from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Presently Father Michael Francis Mulvoy C.S.Sp. is Chaplain. Father John J. Murray C.S.Sp. is Associate Chaplain. Both Father Mulvoy and Father Murray are Holy Ghost Fathers, an international order of Priests with headquarters in Rome, Italy. Their work is missionary in nature and the Newman Apostolate is part of their religious and educational endeavors. St. Francis of Assisi, the Universal Saint is the patron-beloved by all, regardless of race, creed or national origin.

St. Francis' doors are open not only to students and faculty, but to all the citizens of Tuscaloosa and the surrounding communities."
