Church of the Holy Spirit was the Tuscaloosa News Feature Church on March 26, 1971.
"To serve the growing needs of Catholics in Tuscaloosa the Church of the Holy Spirit was built in 1964. It continues into the second century the work of St. John the Baptist Church, built by Father Hackett in 1844. St. John's is the mother church of central Alabama; and it has established first churches in Birmingham and Selma when Father McDonough was pastor; in Blocton under Father Cunningham; and under Father Lenahan the chapel in Reform, and St. Francis chapel at the University was founded. Father Lenahan built St. John's School in 1920."
