Description

Harry Pritchett served on the City Board of Education in Tuscaloosa for over 30 years and held a number of leadership roles within the community in his 50-year career. His dedication to Tuscaloosa earned him “Harry Pritchett Day” on Jan. 27, 1971. Named Citizen of the Year in 1949, Pritchett was then head of the Chamber of Commerce and the United Way of Tuscaloosa.

He is also noted to have assisted the University of Alabama in the transition to integrated education. His perseverance earned him the Algernon Sydney Award for service to UA in 1965.

Pritchett was the long-time business partner of Marlin Moore of Pritchett-Moore Inc. The foundation Pritchett had lain for the company allows it to thrive to this day in the fields of insurance, building rentals and real estate sales.

He is the namesake of the Harry Pritchett Award, an honor given for outstanding efforts toward the betterment of the Tuscaloosa community.

Pritchett was inducted into the Tuscaloosa County Civic Hall of Fame in 2001, the first year of the award that was designed to honor citizens who had made long-term, significant contributions to the development of the county while at the same time celebrating the community's history and heritage.
