According to Ancestry.com. Alabama, WWII Military Dead and Wounded, 1944-1946, Pvt. Chester C A Hargrove was killed on March 10, 1944, while serving with the United States Army in Italy. Pvt. Hargrove was the brother of Mrs. Daisy Westly of West Blocton. Pvt. According to the book Blocton: A History of an Alabama Coal Mining Town by Charles Adams who quoted Community historian Willie Jo Parker who said that Pvt. Hargrove was "the first black soldier from this area to lose his life in a war."
