Title
Woodrow Wilson "Foots" Clements, 1914-2002
Description
Tuscaloosa native, W. W. “Foots” Clements took a summer job at the local Dr. Pepper bottling plant during his time at the University of Alabama in 1935. Starting as a small-town distributer, “Foots” was propelled into a life-long sales career. He worked his way up to President and CEO of the Dr. Pepper Company in 1974.
“Foots” was inducted Beverage World Hall of Fame in 1982 and then into the Alabama Business Hall of Fame in 1989. Dr. Pepper’s popularity in the southeastern region is indisputably due in large part to Clements’s faith in the international possibilities of the Texan soft drink.
A former TCHS Wildcat, Clements made a donation to the Tuscaloosa County High School Foundation to the tune of $250,000. Clements died in 2002.
