Description
Dr. James C. Guin was one of the 50 doctors on staff when the new Druid City Hospital (DCH) opened in 1952. According to his obituary in the Tuscaloosa News on October 17, 1996, Dr. Guin practiced medicine in Tuscaloosa for more than 50 years. Among his many responsibilities Dr. Guin served as the physician for Central Foundry and was the founding physician at West Alabama General Hospital.
A native of Moores Bridge in northern Tuscaloosa County, Dr. Guin received his A.B. from the University of Alabama and his M.D. from the State University of New York, Downstate School of Medicine, Brooklyn, New York. In addition to his work in Tuscaloosa, Dr. Guin served as an Army Air Force Physician during World War II.
Dr. Guin was married to Esther Kay Guin and had two children: James C. Guin III and Emma Kay Guin Long.
