Sarah S. McBroom served on the Tuscaloosa City Council District 7 from 1989-1997. She was the first woman on the Council. She was president of the Council from 1995-1997. She loved to travel and made many trips while on the Council.
Sarah was born September 19, 1934, to O.V. and Lottie Farmer Crabtree. She died in Tuscaloosa on June 14, 2011 at the age of 76. Sarah graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School Class of 1953, and shortly after went to work for South Central Bell. She completed 30 years before her retirement.
Mrs. McBroom was very active in Tuscaloosa community life. She was a member of Skyland Boulevard Baptist Church, member of Local CWA, member of BellSouth Pioneers, and member of The Business and Professional Women's League, and served on DCH Hospital Board from 1978-1987.
