Col. William Tandy Barrett of Tuscaloosa was a military hero and one of the founders of Northington Laundry.
Barrett had a long history of civic service including many roles related to industrial development. He was the first chairman of the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Agency, founded in 1973, and he served until 1979. He was president of the Greater Tuscaloosa Chamber of Commerce for two years in the 1960s and was elected president of the Industrial Development Board of Tuscaloosa to succeed Harry Pritchett, who had been president for 13 years.
Barrett founded Northington Cleaners after World War II with Ernest "Rainy" Collins, who became a mayor of Tuscaloosa.
Joseph A. Duckworth founded Duckworth-Morris Realty in 1918. Duckworth was a veteran of service on the Tuscaloosa Board of Education, serving as chairman. He was president of Tuscaloosa Rotary Club from 1923 to 1930 and served as district governor of the organization from 1930-1931.
