Description

In 1925, the city of Tuscaloosa built a second fire station. The first was located at 2518 Seventh Street. Fire Station No. 2 was built on 10th Street (now Paul W. Bryant Drive) and 14th Avenue and was a bungalow-type station. The station had one captain and three fire men. This station was torn down and a new one built behind Bryant-Denny Stadium. Eventually that one was demolished, as well, to make room for the expansion of the stadium. Fire Chief Pete Mathews was Captain at the No.2 Station for part of his career. The Oteen fire trucks used at the time had the steering on the right side, rather than the left.
