Subject

Black Warrior River (AL)

Description

The swimming club was located between Locks 10 and 11 on the north side of the Black Warrior River. Bath houses were on a large wooden barge. It was built by C. E. Abbott Jr. and widely used by young people. Girls at that time were quite modest and Abbott built a trap door in the girl's dressing room so they could go directly into the water after changing into their swim suits. Skiffs ferried people over from the south side of the river.
