Description
Vivian Malone (1942-2005) was the first African-American graduate at the University of Alabama. She earned a management degree in 1965.
Malone was one of two African-American students that then-Governor George Wallace tried to keep from attending the University of Alabama in 1963.
After enduring prejudice, racisim, and ostracism for the two years she attended the University of Alabama, Malone was honored in 1996 by George Wallace with the Lurleen B. Wallace Award for Courage.
