Description

This Tuscaloosa News photo shows the steam boiler owned by Tuscaloosa Light and Ice Company. It exploded and traveled from its location on 4th Street between 22nd and 23rd avenues to the top of the Friedman-Rosenau store building located at Greensboro Avenue and Broad Street (now University Boulevard) where Tuscaloosa's iconic bank building stands today. On one was hurt, but it did cause a lot of excitement and damage was done to nearby businesses.
