Title

The Mound in Snow, 1929

Subject

University of Alabama

Description

Although this photograph is labeled Indian Mound, it is actually of the Mound on the Quad of the University of Alabama. The Mound was created from the remains of the buildings burned and destroyed during the Civil War on April 5, 1865. The Mound is on the site of the former dormitory, Franklin Hall. Rather than remove the rubble it was pushed together and covered with dirt.

The Mound is the site for the annual spring honors ceremonies.
