Description

Alabama Gov. George C. Wallace talks with U.S. Deputy Attorney General Nicholas Katzenback at Foster Auditorium on June 11, 1963, when Wallace made his "Stand in the Schoolhouse Door" to prevent integration at the University of Alabama. Ultimately, Wallace stepped aside and Brigadier General Henry Graham escorted Vivian Malone and James Hood into Foster Auditorium to register for classes. Alabama became the last state in the union to desegregate its system of public education.
