William Davenport Latner (abt 1815 - 1900) and his wife Katherine "Kattie" Richardson Latner (1810-?) were both born in South Carolina. (Her name may be spelled with a "C." )
The couple moved to Hale County, Alabama, where he worked as a blacksmith and farmer. Katty taught school at the Old Liberty School in Hale County and was said to be one of the best educated people in the area.
The couple had eleven children. They lost five sons in the Civil War - three of them in prisoner-of-war camps. The Latners and many of their descendants are buried in the New Hope Church in Hale County.
