This aerial view is of the construction of the Tuscaloosa County Courthouse located on the northwest corner of Seventh Street and Lurleen Wallace Blvd. The old jail is still visible upper right of the courthouse, before its demolition.
The contract for the demolition of the old courthouse was made with the Loftis Wrecking Company for $4,800. After competitive bids were opended the contract for building the courthouse was let to the Daniel Construction Company . The architect was Charles McCauley. The ground-breaking ceremony was held in September 1962 and on June 5, 1963 the cornerstone was laid. The courthouse was dedicated on April 12, 1964.
