Russell Samuel Lee founded Russel S. Lee Floor and Tile Company, Inc., in 1950 and retired from the company in 2005 at 82 years of age. Lee died on Sept. 28, 2013, at 90 years old.

Russell S. Lee was born on August 9, 1923, in Red Level, Alabama, - one of thirteen children. His family moved to Tuscaloosa when he was one year old where he lived for his entire life.

Lee served in the U.S. Army under General George Patton during World War II. After returning home, he established his flooring company and, in 1985, married Hazel Key, who also joined the company, working along with her husband.

Lee served on the boards of Security Federal Bank, 4-H Club, Alabama Arabian Horse Association, and served as president of the Tuscaloosa Sub-Contractors Association. He was a member of the Tuscaloosa Homebuilder's Association since its inception. He was awarded "Outstanding Tile Man" from the National Tile Contractors Association and selected as a Pillar of West Alabama by the Community Foundation of West Alabama.

His wife, Hazel Kay Lee, daughters, Judy Lee Suther and Wanda Lee Young, a son, Kenneth Wayne Lee and stepsons, Richard Key and Steve Key survive him.

His children are now the owners of Russell S. Lee Floor and Tile Company, Inc.
