Second Lieutenant Charles West Joplin

2Lt. Charles W. Joplin was killed on June 21, 1918, while serving with the 7th Infantry Division, 3rd Infantry Regiment. Lt. Joplin was originally from Gurley in Madison County, Alabama but was a popular student at the University of Alabama prior to his enlistment. Lt. Joplin was a member of the <a href="https://books.google.com/books?id=uphOAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA594&lpg=PA594&dq=%22c+w+joplin%22+alabama&source=bl&ots=7Jjh296s0r&sig=CnVRFBbY_U1ytCk_pFn5WFGDG7E&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwii57Gkh4LKAhXGej4KHfnFDV0Q6AEIHDAA#v=onepage&q=%22c%20w%20joplin%22%20alabama&f=false">Kappa Alpha Beta Fraternit</a>y and played baseball and football for the University of Alabama.
