2nd Lieutenant Phillip C. Anders

Aviation Cadet Andrew C. Smith was killed on May 15, 1942, when his plane crashed in a training accident near Mason, Texas. Cadet Smith was a graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School and attended the University of Alabama prior to his military service. Cadet Smith was the son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Albert Smith of Fosters. Radioman James R. Adams was first reported missing in action on July 2, 1944, in the Pacific. Adams would later be declared dead on July 3, 1945. For his service he was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
