                <text>The previous city hall on this same site came down in 1936, and a new city hall was built under the Public Works Administration for a cost of $200,000. The building housed city offices and meeting rooms, an auditorium/movie theater, a barbershop, and a drugstore. The building was designed by architect D.O. Whilldin. &#13;

The theatre initially was leased to the Bama Theatre Company for a period of twenty years. On the afternoon of April 12, 1938, a parade led by the Million Dollar Band started at the university and marched to the Bama, where a PWA officials presented the keys to the building to Mayor Luther Davis. Mr. Davis was also a pharmacist who occupied the drugstore in the building for many years. &#13;
&#13;
The marquee, sporting banners announcing the grand opening, advertises the movie “Hawaii Calls” with child actor Bobby Breen and Ned Sparks. </text>

"The house of the theatre is actually a reproduction of the courtyard of the Davanzati Palace of Florence, Italy with the orchestra and balcony sections decorated as a Spanish courtyard, complete with balconies and ironwork. The murals on the acoustical panels, painted by Italian-born scenic designer Navino Nataloni, and the twinkling stars and clouds on the night sky ceiling complete the open-air feel of the performance hall. The previous city hall on this same site came down in 1936, and a new city hall was built under the Public Works Administration for a cost of $200,000. The building housed city offices and meeting rooms, an auditorium/movie theater, a barbershop, and a drugstore. The building was designed by architect D.O. Whilldin. &#13;
&#13;
 The theatre initially was leased to the Bama Theatre Company for a period of twenty years. On the afternoon of April 12, 1938, a parade led by the Million Dollar Band started at the university and marched to the Bama, where a PWA officials presented the keys to the building to Mayor Luther Davis. Mr. Davis was also a pharmacist who occupied the drugstore in the building for many years. &#13;

                <text>The Diamond Theater opened in 1946 at 621 23rd Avenue in Tuscaloosa and closed in 1967. The building accommodated 500 and was fitted with the most modern cinema equipment, attractively decorated and completely fireproof. The theater and Diamond Drugs next door were part of a group of businesses known as the Bluefront District that catered to African-Americans. The building was razed in 2007 to make room for the city's Intermodal facility.</text>

The theater was formerly the Bama Theatre until the new theater was built on Greensboro Avenue at Sixth Street in 1938. Druid Theater was demolished for expansion of the bank building. &#13;
