This group called themselves "The Rockettes" for a 1960 Talent Show at Tuscaloosa High School. They danced the "Highland Fling" for the show and for the YMCA membership drive publicity. Their costumes were made by Alice Raiford, a board member of the YMCA in Tuscaloosa. From left to right, the dancers are: Brenda Wright, Carole Raiford, Charlotte Cayley, Barbara Bailey, Elaine Walton, Barbara Wright and Sandra Gibson.

A photograph of Barbara Jordan with the audio equipment necessary to listen to the "talking books" supplied by the Library of Congress to libraries throughout the United States.
The Tuscaloosa Public Library, a Subregional Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, provides tapes and records of books and the audio equipment necessary to listen to them to qualified patrons by mail. Mrs. Jordan visits patrons in their homes to offer instructions on how to use the equipment.
Braille books are also available through this service.

In 1960 the funds necessary to construct a new facility for the Barnes Branch were available. In January, 1961 the branch moved into its new building that was completely paid for at that time. The Warner Foundation gave $42,000 towards the cost of this $105,000 building.
The new building included a general purpose room, club, craft and game rooms as well as a gymnasium, office and kitchen. In 1961 classes were offered in Home Making Made Easier, typing and shorthand, square dancing, slimnastics, and bridge for adults. Youth classes included various forms of dance, tumbling, bridge, and tennis. Clubs for students of all ages were also organized.
