Al DuPont stands in front of his election headquarters in his first race for mayor of Tuscaloosa. After 30 years as a municipal employee, DuPont handily defeated his boss Ernest "Rainy" Collins in the July 14, 1981, election. DuPont remained in the position until 2005 when he chose not to run.
