The lady members were daughters of Richard McLester and the hotel was named for him. Described as a "bowl and pitcher" hotel, having 33 rooms with a fireplace in each, the three-story building was made of bricks with an iron and glass front. On the ground floor were a store, an office, and a dining room. Title A name given to the resource Brown's Department Store, circa 1950 Subject The topic of the resource Department stores Brown, Abe Description An account of the resource Abe Brown established Brown Brother’s Dollar store in May 1898 and moved to the southeast corner of Broad (now University Boulevard) and Greensboro Avenue in 1906. He built the current building known as Brown’s Corner in 1926. Brown’s Department Store went out of business in 1978. The building became vacant in the late 1970s and in 1995 was formally deeded to the Heritage Commission of Tuscaloosa County.
