The team of 12-year-olds was having an undefeated season. The Tuscaloosa News featured the team in an article. Coach Bryant saw it, called Coach Langford and said he wanted to meet the team. Langford offered to bring the team to Tuscaloosa, but Bryant said, “Oh, no. I’ll travel to meet champions!” He came to Akron and shook hands with all the players and gave them a flag and football.

Hubert Colvin was on the A team that was not in the photo but said he was so excited to meet Coach Bryant and shake his hand that he thought he would never wash his hands again.
