Cousins Sammy Hayes and James Carl Hayes pose in front of H&W Drug Store located in the Alston Building on Greensboro Avenue in Tuscaloosa. The boys are wearing their American Legion baseball uniforms. The boys played for the Farley W. Moody Post of the American Legion of which James Carl's father was a member.
Sammy's name was John Samuel Hayes, born on July 24, 1927, to Samuel Victor Hayes and Essie Vaughn Hayes. The family lived in Echola.
James Carl Hayes was born August 19, 1925, to James Nathan Hayes and Dollie Sherrill Hayes. The family lived in Echola, but moved to Tuscaloosa in 1943. James Carl Hayes was killed in a motorcycle accident at Greensboro Avenue and 15th Street on May 3, 1945, when he was 19 years old.

The basketball team from Ettecca Junior High School won in their first Tuscaloosa County Junior High School Tournament in 1934. Members of the team are Troy Long, Dewrel Williamson, Paul Dyer, Cego Spencer, Wymon Oswalt, Dutch Dyer, Robert Kemp, Vance Long and an unidentified player whose first name was believed to be Marion. The team played on a dirt court.
Ettecca School was five miles north of the present (2014) Northside High School at the intersection of what was then Byler Road (now U.S. 43) and Concord Road (now County Road 12) in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. The school was build in 1927 on land donated by Morgan P.and Mamie Cannon. The school closed in 1967.

This photo was published in The Tuscaloosa News on Jan 8, 1951. The Tuscaloosa County Junior High team was seeking to even its season record in league play when they met Alberta on Jan. 10 in Northport. The County High Juniors had won 1 and lost 2 in league play. In that game, the "Baby Wildcats," paced by sharpshooting Billy Eubanks, romped to an easy 35-16 win over Alberta.

Photo shows the starting offense for the Gorgas High School Generals football team in 1947. It was the first football team for the school located in the Samantha area of Tuscaloosa County (Ala.) that opened in 1918. The school was closed in 1959 when the new Northside High School was built.
The team lost their first game in 1947 to Hole, 66-0.
Their first win came in their second season against Palmetto.
The coach for the team was Johnny Hall. Bobby Walker coached the Generals from the mid 1950's to 1959 with success.
