St. Mark United Methodist Church was the Tuscaloosa News Feature Church on December 4, 1970. Charles W. Bell was minister of the church at this time.
"St. Mark United Methodist Church is located at 1421 McFarland Boulevard in Northport. The church was organized on June 27, 1965 and met at the Northport Junior High School for about a year and one-half. Three years ago this week the congregation moved to the present building which consist of fifteen church school rooms, a recreation room, a kitchen, a study, an office and a fellowship hall which doubles as a place of worship.
The present structure is only part of the total complex. The construction of a sanctuary and another fifteen church school rooms, which are a part of the original plans, will complete the plant.
The church began with the help and encouragement of the First United Methodist Church of Northport. St. Mark now has a membership of 338 and an annual budget of $42,000.00
Regular Sunday services are held at 10:30 A.M. and 6:00 P.M., church school at 9:30 A.M. and United Methodist Youth at 6:45 P.M. Bible study is held on Wednesday evening at 6:30."
