John A. Quarles was in his fourth term as alderman in the Northport City Council when he became ill two years before he died in 1955.
Quarles was born in Vance, the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Quarles. He lived in Northport for 45 years.
His wife was Theo Snyder Quarles; the couple had one son, J. D. Quarles and one grandson, John Quarles.
Quarles was a member of the Northport Baptist Church where he was a life member of the Board of Deacons, a trustee for many years, and was chairman of the house and grounds committee for the church as long as his health permitted.
