Description
David M. Cochrane graduated from the University of Alabama in 1938 and began practicing law in his hometown, Tuscaloosa. He won the bout for probate judge for the first time in 1959. He stood for conservative budgeting and community advancement throughout his terms.
Hospitalized in the ‘67 for a stroke, his poor health got the better of him and he stepped down from his probate judge position in 1968. He passed away in 1975.
Cochrane is the namesake of the David M. Cochrane Award, an annual honor given to one local (Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar or Pickens) government official for their successes over the course of one year.
