Description

Dr. Charles E. Abbott was the chief of the medical staff of the new Druid City Hospital ( DCH) when it opened in 1952.

According to his Tuscaloosa News obituary on September 21, 1962, Dr. Abbott specialized in pediatrics and internal medicine. Dr. Abbott attended both the University of Alabama and Tulane University Medical School. Dr. Abbott had varied medical career serving in private practice in Tuscaloosa, as an Army Air Corps physician during World War II, and as Chief of Pediatrics at Lloyd Nolan Hospital in Fairfield.

Dr. Abbott lettered in baseball at the University of Alabama and was president of Kappa Sigma Fraternity and president of Phi Chi Medical Fraternity while at Tulane.

Active in local civic and medical organizations, Dr. Abbott was a past president of the Alabama Academy of Pediatrics, a member of the Alabama Medical Association and a past president of the Tuscaloosa County Medical Association.

Dr. Abbott was married to Mrs. Frances Boone Abbott and had 2 sons Rev. Joseph Boone Abbott and Charles Edward Abbott III and a daughter Mrs. Mark Mathis.
