Description
On January 11,1896, the first towboat - the "Baltimore" of Demopolis - passed under the drawbridge and into safe anchor in Lock No. 1.
A large party of Tuscaloosa and Northport people including ladies and gentlemen, as well as small boys and girls, boarded the "Baltimore" at Lock No.1 and through the courtesy of Colonel R. P. Knox enjoyed the first trip of the towboat to several mines along the Black Warrior River's edge.
