Description

A drawing of the City National Bank in Tuscaloosa, Alabama designed in the Classical Revival Style by William Leslie Welton and built in 1922. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

The Bank of J. H. Fitts, first established in 1865, was nationalized in 1902 as the City National Bank.  Fitts purchased the State Bank of Alabama building in the 1870's to house his bank.  In 1887 the bank moved to a new location on the north side of University Blvd in a new structure which featured a cast-ion facade topped by an acroteria that featured a statue of Mercury.

In 1922 it moved to this new building located on the corner of University Blvd. and 23rd Ave.
